Greedy Boy

Sam and Tom were identical twins. They were so identical that even their mother felt it difficult to distinguish between them, at least during their initial days after birth.

However, they were very different from each other when it comes to each and everything other than their appearance. Sam had no friends, while Tom had many. Sam loved sweets, while Tom loved spicy food and detested sweets only. Sam was mommy’s pet while Tom was daddy’s pet. While Sam was generous and selfless, Tom was too greedy and selfish boy.

As Sam and Tom grew up, their father wanted to share his property equally among them. However, Tom did not agree and had argued that whoever proved himself to be more intelligent and strong will have bigger share of the wealth.

Sam got agree on it. Their father decided to organized a tough competition between them. He asked the both sons to walk as long as they could, and return home before sunset. The wealth would be divided in proportion to the distance covered. It was a rule of the competition, they were not permitted to carry a watch with them to keep track of the time.

On the following day, Sam and Tom set out to walk. It was a sunny day. Sam started walking slowly and steadily, while Tom broke into a sprint as he was totally bent on winning the race and also winning a greater portion of wealth of his father.

Sam knew that well it would be ideal to walk as far as possible till noon and must start for home at noon as it would take the same amount of time to walk back home. Knowing this, Sam decided to turn back for home as it became noon to reach home on time.

However, Tom with his greed to get more wealth, did not think to return home even after mid-noon. He walked twice as long as Sam walked, and kept in mind that he would still be able to return home before sunset. He hurried back when he saw the sun turn orange in color. Unfortunately, he could not even go it half way home as the sun started to set. Slowly darkness engulfed on his path and he had to drag his tired feet back to the home.

He had to lost the race. Only because of his dam greed.
