One day a Hare was laughing on the Tortoise for being so slow.
"Do you ever get anywhere?" he asked with a mocking laugh.
The Tortoise said that of course yes and I will get there sooner than you might think of. I'll run a race with you and prove it so.
The Hare was much stunned at the idea of running a race with the Tortoise, but for the fun he got agree. So the Fox, who was appointed, had consented to act as judge, marked the distance and started the runners off.
The Hare was too fast and soon far out of sight, and to make the Tortoise feel very deeply how ridiculous that it was for he tried a race with a Hare, he lay down beside the course to take a nap until the Tortoise reach.
But the Tortoise kept going slowly but steadily. But the Hare was in deep sleep. At the last he did wake up, the Tortoise was close to the goal. The Hare now ran with his complete power, but he could not overtake the Tortoise.
